Amidst all the doubts and disputations, the Holy Bible remains the greatest of all books and well worth reading by anyone at any time. Nevertheless, there is a spirit of the Word that is not readily discerned by the casual reader, a deeper meaning that lies beneath the surface. Jesus said:

"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."Jn5.39.

Thus, if we follow His direction, we will soon learn that Jesus Christ is the centerpiece of the scriptures. Further investigation will reveal that it is He who holds within Himself the gift of eternal life, and who is always ready to give this gift to anyone who asks for it. Everything else is simply "commentary."

But it is impossible to comprehend this. If I have not received the Gift of God the Bible will always be "mumble jumble" and "old wives tales", not prophecies and parameters for living for:

"the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1Cor 2:14)
